An energy and finance executive is Gov. Kevin Stitt’s latest choice for the governing board of five Oklahoma colleges.
Stitt announced Wednesday he appointed Cary Baetz to the Oklahoma A&M Board of Regents, which oversees Oklahoma State University, Langston University, Connors State College, Oklahoma Panhandle State University and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College.
Baetz, of Oklahoma City, is the executive vice president and chief financial officer at Berry Corp. The 1986 OSU graduate was formerly the CFO and treasurer for the domestic oilfield services company Seventy Seven Energy Inc.

He will succeed Regent Calvin Anthony and serve an eight-year term on the board if the state Senate confirms him.
“Simply put, Cary Baetz gets things done,” said Stitt, an OSU alumnus. “He is passionate about Oklahoma State University and his strategic executive experience will be very valuable as we make sure OSU students are obtaining the skills and degrees they need to succeed in the workforce.”

Baetz said he is “honored and thankful” for the opportunity to serve his alma mater.
OSU President Kayse Shrum said the new appointee’s experience as a business leader “comes at an ideal time” as the university charts a cohesive strategy for its system.
“His executive acumen, leadership insights and love for his alma mater will help lead our institutions into the future,” Shrum said in a statement.

Baetz’s wife, Treca, sits on the OSU Foundation Board of Governors, the OSU Alumni Association Board of Directors and the alumni association leadership council.
“I look forward to working with Dr. Shrum, her team, and my fellow regents in continuing Oklahoma State University’s mission to promote learning, to advancing knowledge, to enriching lives, and to simulating economic development,” Baetz said in a statement.
